A Sydney judge has found a 28-year-old man guilty of manslaughter after the stolen car he was driving hit and killed a Central Coast grandfather.

Sam Conway was driving a stolen Land Rover on the wrong side of the road at Berkeley Vale, when he slammed head on into a Kia sedan being driven by 45-year-old Darren Hill in the early hours of January 15, 2019.

Mr Hill, a 45-year-old security guard who just finished work, died at the scene.

Conway made a run for it before being arrested days later.

He always maintained he was not driving the car, insisting he was somebody else.

But Judge Stephen Norrish told the court that was just one of many lies told by Conway, adding he was captured on CCTV in the driver's seat an hour before the crash at a McDonald's drive-through in Bateau Bay.

Conway was already in custody and will be sentenced in February.

Outside the court Darren Hill's family celebrated. David Connell, Darren's father-in-law, said "justice has been done".
