A helicopter rescue is underway in remote NSW after an 18-year-old man was bitten by a snake.

Emergency services were flown by helicopter to an isolated water hole near Castle Rock in the NSW Tablelands after the teenager was bitten by an unknown species of snake.

He was winched into the Westpac Rescue Helecopter just after 6.30pm on Saturday and was being flown to Armidale Hospital in a stable condition.
