Rebels bikie charged in NSW murder probe

A bikie gang member and his son have become the latest people charged over the bashing murder of Clint Starkey at a NSW Central Coast service station.

Mr Starkey, 42, was set upon at the Caltex outlet in Peats Ridge in April 2017.

He died in Gosford Hospital two months later without recovering from serious head injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Gary Jubelin at the time said the bashing was the result of "a dispute" between Mr Starkey, a bikie associate and Rebels members.

James Peter Crane, 54 and his son, 25-year-old Aaron Crane, were pulled over and arrested at Lisarow on Tuesday afternoon.

The father, a Rebel, was charged with Mr Starkey's murder and did not apply for bail at Gosford Local Court on Wednesday.

He was ordered to appear at the same court again on June 28 via video link.

His son was charged with hindering a police investigation and tampering with evidence during James Crane's arrest.

Aaron Crane was granted bail on the condition he report daily to a police station, stay away from witnesses, have no contact with his father or the Rebels and post a $5000 bond.

He is expected in the same court again on May 16.

The pair are related to a life-long Rebel, Colin Crane, according to police sources.

Colin Crane was charged with Mr Starkey's murder in July 2018.

Six people have now been charged with Mr Starkey's murder. They include a Rebels sergeant-at-arms and other bikie associates.

Three people have been charged with hindering the investigation.

"We have a pretty clear picture on exactly why this occurred," Det Chief Insp Jubelin told reporters in October 2017.

"This was a particularly violent offence. A man was bashed to death."
