A seal with a busted flipper is being closely monitored by park rangers and volunteers on the NSW south coast.

The animal has been seen swimming around Collingwood beach at Vincentia for the past week with a cut on its left flipper.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service ranger Noel Webster warned people not to approach it.

"Stay at least 40 metres from the animal because while seals are beautiful creatures, they are carnivores with sharp teeth and can become aggressive when they feel threatened," he said.
