Protest at Windsor Bridge construction site turns ugly

A group of protesters was forcibly removed by police after they prevented workers from entering a work site in Sydney’s north-west this morning.

The group, which included Federal MP Susan Templeman and Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon, blocked the entrance to the Thompson Square site in Windsor.

Last year, an early type of road paving was discovered next to where the new bridge is being built.

Residents have been left angered after the NSW government said the construction of the bridge will continue, despite the significance of the heritage of the site.

Today’s demonstration turned ugly, as police were forced to break up the protest just after 9am.

Video from the scene shows officers pushing several people.

“Hands off, do not manhandle me,” one woman can be heard saying.

“I have a great condition, do not manhandle me.”

People can be heard screaming, as another woman is thrown to the ground.

The rally called for work on the dig site to be halted until after the inquiry into Windsor Bridge has been completed.
