A five-year-old boy was found dead in NSW’s Northern Rivers region, where he and his siblings were restrained in sleeping bags with duct tape, according to reports.

Emergency crews were called to the Grafton home of the young boy after he was found unresponsive at about 6.40am on Monday.

Police gave CPR to the young boy before paramedics arrived, however, he was unable to be saved.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that police confirmed the boy and his siblings were restrained in sleeping bags with duct tape, which also doubled as a blindfold to sleep.

The family had been known to the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) for at least a year, according to the publication.

A DCJ spokesman told nine.com.au he was aware of the boy’s tragic death.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to those who knew and loved this child,” the spokespesman said.

“DCJ is working with NSW Police on their inquiries. Given there is an active investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
