'Pistol-carrying' man arrested in Sydney

A man who was allegedly carrying a loaded pistol while walking along a southern Sydney street in the middle of the day has been arrested.

Officers went to speak to the man while he was walking on Macquarie Street, Eastlakes on Tuesday afternoon, when he allegedly fled to a nearby unit complex on Maloney Street.

Police say they found a loaded .22 calibre pistol, methylamphetamine and tablets believed to be Xanax on the 28-year-old man.

He was charged with six offences including possess unregistered firearm.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
