Perth artist wins Bondi sculpture prize

Don't fight change. Embrace it.

That's the message from Perth artist Johannes Pannekoek, who has taken out the top prize in the world's largest annual sculpture exhibition, Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi.

Mr Pannekoek drove his one tonne corten steel creation, titled Change Ahead, across the Nullarbor before being named the Aqualand Sculpture Award winner on Thursday.

"It's about the non-linear nature of life ... Nothing happens in a straight line," he told AAP.

"Expect change ahead. Actually embrace change."

Mr Pannekoek's piece, alongside more than 100 others from 17 countries, will mark the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk until November 6.

The popular annual exhibition on the Bondi coastal walk is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
