Lyttle wants brother's charges dropped

Irish tourist Patrick Lyttle says the assault charges against his big brother, Barry, should be dropped.

Wearing a suit and a grey woollen beanie, the 31-year-old turned up to at Downing Centre on Thursday to support his sibling.

"Of course, why wouldn't I be? He's my brother," Patrick told reporters.

"We love each other," he said.

Patrick has been recovering since his brother allegedly punched him in the head in the early hours of January 3.

It landed him in hospital in a critical condition and Barry with the charge of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.

Patrick just wants the charges dropped.

"This should not be going ahead, it's not a matter for court," he said, adding it was all an accident.

The prosecution on Thursday requested a report from the neurosurgeon who treated Patrick to determine how much damage has been done. They said they were aware of Patrick's point of view.

The court heard the Lyttle family is anxious to have the matter dealt with as soon as possible, so they can return home to Ireland.

Barry said he was relieved his brother was on the mend.

"We're just hoping in a couple of weeks time this can get a lot better and we can all go home as a family."

Bail is to remain unchanged, with Barry to report to police three times a week.

The matter has been adjourned until March 19.
