NSW Police warn long weekend drivers

As drivers hit the roads to return from long weekend getaways, NSW Police are pleading with drivers to be responsible on the roads.

The long weekend road toll remains at three after a double fatality in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Morisset on Saturday morning and after a crash in Albury later in the day.

But police say they are still disappointed with the unnecessary risks some drivers are taking.

In Sydney's west, a male driver was charged after he was caught driving more than 30km/h over the speed limit in Smithfield on Saturday.

Another man was charged with high-range drink driving in Kings Park, also in Sydney's west, after he returned a breath test more than double the legal limit on Saturday.

"Drivers must remember the serious responsibility they have to ensure their own safety, that of their passengers and other motorists every time they get behind the wheel," Acting Assistant Commissioner David Driver said in a statement on Sunday.

"No one deserves to end up in a police car, ambulance or hearse due to the irresponsible driving of someone else."
