Police treating seven-month-old baby boy's death as suspicious

Police are investigating the death of a seven-month-old baby boy who was rushed to a regional New South Wales hospital yesterday in an unresponsive state.

The child was taken to Muswellbrook Hospital in the state's Hunter region just after 3pm.

Despite hospital staff's efforts he was unable to be revived.

Detectives from Hunter Valley Police District are now treating the death as suspicious.

NSW Police said a crime scene was established at a home in the region, with specialist forensic officers called in.

"A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death; however, it is being treated as suspicious," NSW Police said in a statement.
