NSW pedestrian struck, fighting for life

An elderly woman is fighting for life after being hit by a car on a main road south of Wollongong.

The 78-year-old woman was using the designated walkway between the north and southbound lanes of Central Road in Oak Flats when she was struck by a Holden Commodore driven by a 23-year-old woman at 9.50am on Thursday.

She was treated at the scene and airlifted to St George Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The driver was taken for tests and police investigations are continuing.
