Riot squad shut street as protest erupts outside NSW Parliament

Riot police shut down a Sydney street after protesters precariously balanced a pink bed on a fence outside NSW Parliament.

Extinction Rebellion protesters in costumes climbed on the bed and threw cash around as others gathered below this afternoon.

A large pink sign urging the government to "get out of bed with fossil fuels" was hung on the fence.

The activists were protesting the state government's continued support of the fossil fuel industry.

Riot police temporarily closed Macquarie Street, and it has since been reopened after the protesters were moved on.

The demonstration came at an opportune time, as chaos also ensued inside parliament.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian narrowly survived no confidence motions, and former Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire and her ex-boyfriend faced a grilling at ICAC.
