New South Wales' mask mandate could be extended beyond December 15 in a bid to prevent large COVID-19 outbreaks ahead of the Christmas period, according to reports.

Health authorities have suggested the indoor mask rule may be around for longer, particularly as retail stores are set to be busy over the next month.

People in NSW are currently required to wear a mask indoors, with a few exceptions such as offices and exercise.
