NSW black magic exorcism jury deliberates

A jury is expected to continue its deliberations at the trial of a spiritual healer accused of carrying out a black magic exorcism on a non-consenting Sydney man.

Riza Morinaj, 39, pleaded not guilty to detaining the man in company occasioning him actual bodily harm at a Sydney house in November 2016.

The Melbourne healer also denies an alternative charge of assaulting the man occasioning actual bodily harm in company.

The man, who cannot be identified, testified that he was held down on a bed when suction cups were placed on him and cuts made with a blade after relatives believed he had been a victim of black magic.

But Morinaj denied the man had struggled or protested, telling the jury he would have stopped if there had been any objections.

The District Court jury is expected to begin its second day of deliberations on Tuesday.
