No bail for man charged over NSW death

A man had allegedly consumed at least two full-strength beers while driving when his utility hit and killed a pedestrian in Sydney's west, according to court documents.

William Luya, 67, died after allegedly being struck by the ute while crossing Bay Drive in Meadowbank about 5.30pm on Friday.

The driver of the ute, Matthew Simon Prykasa, has been charged over Mr Luya's death.

Prykasa, from the western Sydney suburb of Berala, did not appear at Parramatta Local Court when his matter was mentioned on Saturday, nor did he apply for bail, and it was formally refused.

The 29-year-old has been charged with consuming alcohol and using a mobile phone while driving, as well as dangerous and negligent driving occasioning death.

Police will allege that while in control of the vehicle, Prykasa had consumed two or three full-strength, 330ml Hahn Superdry beers.

Prykasa will remain in custody before facing Parramatta Local Court again on Monday.
