Fire crews working to contain blazes across NSW ahead of more hot weather

Fire crews battling raging bushfires in northern New South Wales are working through the weekend to get the blazes contained ahead of further hot weather forecast to hit the state.

The NSW Rural Fire Service confirmed 22 homes have been destroyed so far, 15 houses have been damaged, 73 outbuildings destroyed and 21 outbuildings have been damaged.

There were 25 bush and grass fires still burning across NSW this morning, with eight yet to be contained.

The major fire grounds are at Wallangarra, nearby Tabulam and Tingha Plateau all in the northern part of NSW.

The latter two blazes are at Watch and Act advice level.

The Bruxner Highway fire at Tabulam is considered out of control, having burnt through more than 4200 hectares of land.

Dangerous trees along the highway are being assessed with the assistance of Roads and Maritime Services.

"Crews will today undertake back burning to strengthen containment lines," NSW RFS tweeted today.

"They will be supported by water bombing aircraft."

The Tingha Plateau fire has burnt more than 22,000 hectares of bush, however strong winds predicted to impact the area on Friday night did not eventuate.

Firefighting crews from Queensland have also been brought in to assist.

Residents are being asked to monitor the situation in their area, follow the advice of firefighters and "know what you will do" if the fire approaches.

Evacuation centres have been set up. Those who fear their life is at risk are urged to call triple zero immediately.

Temperatures are expected to range from the mid-20s in coastal areas to mid-30s inland today, but any reprieve could be short-lived with hotter weather expected to sweep up through the interior of the continent on Monday and Tuesday.
