Mum charged, toddler fights for life

A mother has been charged as her young son fights for life in a Sydney hospital.

The two-year-old from North Rocks was taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead last week with significant head and body injuries.

Police charged the toddler's 39-year-old father with grievous bodily harm two days later but released the boy's mother.

On Wednesday, however, the 24-year-old was charged with recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent in the second degree, hindering a police investigation, and a child neglect offence.

The woman was refused bail and was due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.

The injured boy remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
