Missing swimmer found near buoy after intense multi-agency search

A swimmer who went missing overnight near the Queensland-NSW border has been found safe after an intense search that spanned two days.

The search began at Fingal Head’s Dreamtime Beach on Monday night after emergency crews were told that the 30-year-old woman had gone for a swim at about 6.45am but hadn’t returned.

Police began a search shortly after, with help from Marine Area Command, Queensland PolAir, and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter, however, the woman was not found.

The search was suspended at about 11pm before starting up again on Tuesday morning.

The 30-year-old was spotted at about 6.55am near a floating marker in the Tweed River.

She was rescued by Water Police boat, with help from negotiators, and taken to Fingal Head Wharf, where paramedics assessed her.

The woman has been taken to Tweed Valley Hospital for further assessment.

Police told nine.com.au it remains unclear whether the woman was in the water for the entire duration of her disappearance.
