Men charged after cop's finger bitten

Two men have been charged with resisting police after officers tried to break up a fight and one of the men allegedly bit a senior police officer's finger.

Police say the men, aged 26 and 28, became involved in a physical altercation outside Westfield Miranda, in Sydney's south, on Saturday night.

When officers arrived and tried to arrest the older of the pair, it's alleged the man resisted and tried to assault a male constable before biting an acting inspector on the finger.

Police then moved to arrest the 26-year-old man but were forced to deploy pepper spray when he failed to comply.

The 28-year-old was later charged with a string of offences, including causing actual bodily harm. He was granted bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on January 19.

The 26-year-old was charged with affray and resisting an officer in execution of duty. He faced court on Saturday and was bailed to appear at Sutherland Local Court next Thursday.
