Sydney man found dead with hands bound near nudist beach

A Sydney man found dead with his hands bound behind his back near a south coast nudist beach had arranged to go to the remote location with two men he had met online, according to police.

The body of 45-year-old Jarrod Dark was found in bushland at Otford, north of Wollongong, on the escarpment above Werrong Beach early on Tuesday morning.

Werrong Beach, also known as Hell Hole Beach, is a known nudist beach and reportedly a gay beat.

Police said the Fairfield man had travelled to the remote location with two men, aged 43 and 37, who he had earlier met via social media.

The pair told police they were forced to restrain Dark – using his own belt to tie his hands behind his back – after be become violent.

The two men both suffered head injuries during the struggle and left Dark at the beach while they went to Canterbury Hospital for treatment. They also contacted Wollongong police who found Dark dead a short time later.

Both men were interviewed by detectives and later released without being charged.

Police said detectives were still investigating the circumstances leading up to the discovery of the body.

A post mortem examination was carried out at Glebe Coroners Court on Wednesday. Police said there was still “no determination as to the cause of death”.
