Rebel bikie gunned down in Sydney street

A heavily tattooed bikie nicknamed Ruthless said he came into the world covered in blood and wasn't afraid to leave the same way.

Michael Davey's words proved prophetic when he was gunned downed in a driveway metres from his western Sydney home, having survived a previous shooting attempt less than a year ago.

The Rebels bikie gang member, aged in his 30s, died in Stafford Street, Kingswood just after midnight on Wednesday despite attempts by paramedics to save him.

Known as Micky D and Ruthless, he is believed to have escaped uninjured after a shooting at a Penrith shopping centre last April, which resulted in a 24-year-old man being charged.

The Sydney Rebels announced Mr Davey's death on Facebook, offering condolences to his family.

"You will be truly missed brother you were one of a kind. May you ride in the Forever Chapter," they said.

Girlfriend Sarah Gerrard said she would never forget all he had done for her.

"RIP MICKY. You've been a massive part of my life and you'll always be in my heart we were best friends," she wrote.

At the scene, Krystal Lenkova paid tribute to the father of one, who she said would do anything for his son.

"He was a good guy. I know a lot of people may not think it because of what he was involved in, but he was a really genuine guy," she said.

Mr Davey, who fixed motorbikes for a living, described himself as a "revhead" on social media accounts, which show a heavily tattooed man with a passion for the gym.

His Instagram includes the statement: "I came into this world kick'n n scream'n while covered in some1 elses's blood no I'm not afraid of leavin the same way" alongside a gun and explosion emoji.

The street is no longer being treated as a crime scene by officers who are following up leads, including a vehicle neighbours told police they saw driving away after the shooting.

Police conducting line searches in the street where he died discovered a knife in a grassy area near the red brick home where the shooting occurred, just a few houses away from the unit block where Mr Davey lived.

Richard Stalling, his partner and their four children only moved into the home two weeks ago.

While some neighbours reported hearing five or six shots that sounded like fireworks, Mr Stalling said flashing police lights woke him before he saw the body lying behind his car and realised what had happened.

"I'd say he ran to try and hide behind between my car and the fence, to be honest, and they've found him then and there," he told AAP.

"The victim didn't scream out or anything and it must have happened so quickly."
