Man rescued from NSW floods after two days

A man has been rescued two days after his vehicle was swept into a river in the NSW Hunter region, leaving him stranded by flood waters.

The 56-year-old escaped with his dog and took shelter in a nearby cabin after he was swept from the road while travelling through Upper Allyn on Tuesday night.

A search was launched after his belongings were found and handed to police on Thursday, and he was subsequently helped across flooded crossings by emergency services.

He is now in a stable condition in John Hunter Hospital.
