Sydney man accused of spate of violent attacks over two-hour period

A man who police claim targeted four strangers in a series of random attacks was on bail for another alleged assault at the time.

Ricky Hema, 35, was charged on January 27 with assaulting four people in the space of two hours at Punchbowl, Belfield and Campsie in Sydney’s west.

Police say the attacks began in Punchbowl at 1.30pm on January 24, with Mr Hema allegedly punching a 46-year-old man in the face at a bar.

He then allegedly kicked and punched a 72-year-old man at the same bar.

Police claim Mr Hema went on to attack a third person at a Campsie unit block at 3pm.

CCTV shows the moment the 27-year-old victim was punched in the head in the car park of a unit complex at Campsie, causing him to fall to the ground.

He was then kicked in the head several times before his attacker walked away.

The victim was taken to St George Hospital with head injuries and is believed to be making a recovery.

Police allege Mr Hema later shoulder-charged a 46-year-old man outside a bar in Belfield.

Mr Hema has since been charged with two counts of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is expected to face court again next month, and is yet to enter a plea.

Mr Hema was slated to appear court in November last year to face charges of assault, stalking and intimidating, but failed to turn up.

He was subsequently arrested later that month and attended Burwood Court, only to have a magistrate grant him bail.

Mr Hema has since pleaded not guilty and these previous charges are expected to be dropped, 9NEWS understands.
