Man’s hand severed in alleged Sydney home invasion

A 23-year-old man is recovering in after his left arm was severed in a “brutal” home invasion.
The hunt is now on to find four masked men, who took off from a street in Sydney’s west with a large sum of money.
His left hand was cut off by a machete after confronting an armed intruder at the home in Greenacre at 2am.
Superintendent Rodney Hart from NSW Police said it was a “brutal, violent attack which is extremely traumatic.”
The family of five was asleep when a dark SUV pulled up outside their home on Banksia Road.
Four masked men wielding knives kicked down the front door and went upstairs.
One of the three sons confronted one, and was brutally assaulted.
His father was forced to hand over a large sum of cash from the family safe before the car took off down Banksia Road and was seen heading east.
Police say the family has no involvement in Sydney’s underworld and the victim is not known to officers.

They run a business and were likely targeted because of its success.
“Somehow these people were aware that there may have been cash on the premises and that’s what’s been targeted,” Hart said.
Just moments before the attack one neighbour says he saw a man walking down the road and shining a light into homes along the street.
The 23-year-old remains in Liverpool Hospital where he has undergone surgery.
