Man found with drugs at NSW festival

A man accused of dealing drugs including MDMA at an electronic music festival in the NSW Hunter Region will face court.

The 22-year-old man was detected by a police sniffer dog on Saturday at the four-day music festival Subsonic at Monkerai.

A search uncovered a stash including 15 MDMA capsules, LSD, liquid ecstasy and cash, police say, and he's been granted conditional bail to appear before Raymond Terrace Local Court in January on drug charges.

A 24-year-old Victorian man was charged with six counts of supplying a prohibited drug and granted conditional bail to appear in court in January.

In the past 10 days two young people have died from taking illegal drugs at the Stereosonic music festival, while many other youngsters have overdosed on drugs.

Stefan Woodward died in an Adelaide hospital on Saturday, while Sydney pharmacist Sylvia Choi, 25, was struck down - again by a suspected drug overdose - at the Sydney event.

A 25-year-old man has since been charged with supplying the drugs to Ms Choi, and remains in police custody after appearing in a Sydney court on Friday.

Port Stephens duty officer Alan Janson said it was disappointing that revellers continue to break the law.

"The police operation at Subsonic music festival was about minimising harm and providing a safe and secure environment for music lovers to have a good time," he said.

It was also disturbing, he said, that drivers leaving the festival were detected with illicit substances in their system.

"Of the first six vehicles stopped and tested by Traffic and Highway Patrol officers (on Sunday), five drivers were detected allegedly having illicit drugs in their system."

Subsonic music festival hosted around 12,800 people over the four days.
