Man tries to save girls in northern NSW but drowns

A man has died after a suspected drowning in northern NSW, when he reportedly tried to help two girls struggling in the water.
Emergency services were called to Wooli Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, around 1.15pm, following reports a man was pulled from the water unresponsive.
Police were told the man, aged in his 60s, had entered the water in an effort to help two girls who were experiencing difficulties.

Surf Rescue assisted and the two girls were pulled to safety.
The man was also pulled from the water and CPR was performed, however, he died at the scene.
Police will prepare a brief for the Coroner.
