Man dead after being hit by NSW train

A man has been killed and another injured after being hit by a train in the NSW Hunter Valley.
The pair were on tracks about 300m east of East Maitland Station about 10.15pm on Friday when struck by the passenger train, police say.
It is not known what the men were doing on the line.

A 21-year-old died at the scene while a 19-year-old was taken to Maitland Hospital with cuts and bruises.
He is in a stable condition.
The train line was shut down for five hours while investigations took place.
