Lolly salesman shot in head now stable

A father-of-five shot in the head through the window of his Sydney home has been described as a humble lolly salesman "who wouldn't hurt a fly".

He was shot in the head and back, and was rushed to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

Late this afternoon, his condition was upgraded to 'stable', however he remains in an induced coma.

But police believe 54-year-old Walid Kamoun was specifically targeted when he was gunned down last night.

"There is information that we have at hand that would indicate to us that this was a specifically targeted attack and certainly was not a random incident," Superintendent David Eardley said.

An unidentified shooter fired a shot into Mr Kamoun's head though the window of his Yagoona home.

Nephew Omar Abouchanab, who often helps his uncle packing stock into his van, said his family couldn't understand why Mr Kamoun was shot.

"He is the most humble person you would ever meet. He wouldn't hurt a fly," he said.

Omar, 17, said Mr Kamoun earned a living selling products, including lollies and chips, at markets around the area.

Omar's mother, Mr Kamoun's sister, spent the night at Liverpool Hospital by his bedside.

While Mr Kamoun was known to police, it was only for very minor matters, Supt Eardley said.

"We are still looking for specific motives regarding this matter," he said.

Police are looking for a man described as 170cm tall, slight build and dressed in dark clothing with a hood, who was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

Relatives say Mr Kamoun had lived in the Yagoona townhouse for a year or two.
