Man charged after Sydney carjacking bender

A Sydney man has been charged with a string of offences after allegedly going on a bizarre bender involving two two multi-vehicle crashes and separate carjacking attempts.

The 30-year-old was picked up by an Uber in Waterloo just after 12pm on Sunday when he allegedly began behaving erratically and aggressively before the driver, a 32-year-old man, got out of the car.

Police allege the man then got behind the wheel and drove from the scene before being involved in a crash with three other cars on King Georges Road at Roselands.

He drove away and crashed into another car on nearby Moorefields Road, with both vehicles bursting into flames, before trying and failing to carjack another vehicle driven by a 73-year-old woman.

Police say the man then climbed into the back seat of a 4WD and threatened the 54-year-old driver into taking him to Sydney Airport, where he was arrested.

He was treated for cuts and bruising at St George Hospital before being charged with a series of driving offences and refused bail to face Sutherland Court on Tuesday.
