Lawyer faces sentence for jealousy killing

Zhaoyun Wang gave up everything to move to Australia and marry the woman he loved but a day after arriving, he murdered her in a savage, jealous frenzy.

Now the guilt-stricken Chinese corporate lawyer will come before the NSW Supreme Court to be sentenced over the brutal attack on Shan Wu.

Ms Wu had moved to Newcastle in May 2012, about six months after meeting Wang in Beijing, to work as an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Wang - a court has previously heard - knew his relationship with Ms Wu was in trouble while he was still living in China.

However, he emigrated to Australia, arriving on the morning of February 24, 2013, hoping for a better future.

"I have given up my job and I have given up, up a lot of things," he told police during an interview the day after the murder.

"It was just ... to be with her."

But on the day he arrived Ms Wu, 31, explained to Wang she had started seeing another man.

She went out with that man later that day before returning to her place, where Wang was resting while suffering from a headache.

They argued but eventually went to sleep.

At three in the morning, the bickering resumed.

"She said it over and over again how good it was when she would be with him," Wang told police.

"And she also said when she was with me it was no good."

After Ms Wu told him her feelings had changed, Wang began pacing.

He grabbed a knife from the kitchen and went berserk, stabbing her more than 60 times.

The knife was still deep in her neck when he called triple-0 to confess to the crime.

"In the end (all) that I could remember was a horrific scene," Wang told police.

"I was in the living room, I was on top of her. And the knife was on her, on her neck.

Wang, 33, pleaded guilty to murder in May 2014 in Newcastle Local Court.

He will be sentenced on Friday.
