Kalynda Davis released from China: reports

Kalynda Davis is back home in Australia days after she was facing execution in China for drug smuggling, according to reports.

It is believed the Sydney woman was released without charge.

"We have always known Kalynda to be innocent," her parents have said.

"Her return home today is a clear statement of her innocence."

Ms Davis, 22, was travelling with a man, Peter Gardiner, last month when the pair were stopped at Guangzhou allegedly trying to smuggle 36kg of the drug ice out of the country.

The drugs had a street value of $70-$80 million.

According to the Western Weekender, Australian Consulate-General staff negotiated with the Chinese Government and authorities to ensure Ms Davis' release.

Mr Gardiner, however, remains in China.

Ms Davis' family said they will continue to pray for him: "You are always in our thoughts".

In a statement, Ms Davis' family also thanks the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Chinese Authorities for their "professional and honourable investigation".
