Jury out in Eddie Obeid misconduct case

Jurors hearing the misconduct case against former NSW parliamentarian Eddie Obeid have retired to consider their verdict.

Obeid, 72, is accused of wilfully committing misconduct in public office by failing to declare a personal stake in Circular Quay cafe leases when making representations about the plight of leaseholders in late 2007.

At 2.40pm on Monday, following a three-week trial, NSW Supreme Court judge Robert Beech-Jones sent the jury out to begin its deliberations.

"I cannot emphasise enough that there is absolutely no pressure on you to reach a verdict in any particular time period," Justice Beech-Jones told the jurors.

"We will be here for as long as it takes."
