John Singleton warned by doctors to stop binge drinking

Media mogul John Singleton has been warned to curb his excessive drinking or face the prospect of an early death.

Singleton's son Jack told the Daily Telegraph the 73-year-old advertising and media guru had undergone a cardiac ablation procedure after doctors monitored his heart rate at 220 beats per minute – more than double the healthy rate for someone his age.

"His doctors told him 'Your days of having 20-schooner sessions are over. If you do that, you will die'," Jack Singleton told the Daily Telegraph.

Singleton's son said his multi-millionaire father had dramatically cut down his drinking and now takes daily heart and blood pressure medication.

The diagnosis comes just a month after Singleton was photographed lunging at billionaire mate Jack Cowin with a broken wine glass during a boozy lunch at an exclusive Sydney waterside eatery.

Singleton later apologised for the incident, saying it was a "joke gone wrong".
