Former rugby league player Craig Izzard has been found guilty by the Independent Commission Against Corruption of taking bribes and acting dishonestly in his role as an illegal waste dumping investigator for western Sydney councils.

Izzard, who played for the Penrith Panthers and Parramatta Eels, faced the corruption watchdog last year over a number of allegations that he asked for money in return for ignoring illegal asbestos-ridden waste dumping between January 2015 and March 2016.

Findings of Operation Scania released on Wednesday found Izzard, 52, engaged in serious corrupt conduct in his role as Western Sydney Regional Illegal Dumping Squad officer. The ICAC has also recommended tighter regulation of asbestos waste disposal.
