THE CAREER OF INCOMING NSW POLICE COMMISSIONER MICK FULLER:

* Sworn in as a junior officer in 1987

* Head of the Kings Cross drug squad in the 1990s during heroin scourge

* Promoted to detective sergeant in 2000 and to inspector in 2002

* Reached the rank of superintendent in 2004 and acted in commanding roles across metro and regional areas

* Two-year posting as head of the Sydney local area command

* Became assistant commissioner in 2010

* Served two years in the professional standards command

* Has led multi-agency responses to flooding, fires and terrorism
