The Hills will soon be alive with the sound of high-rise construction with three new high-rise building soon set to rise up in Sydney's north west.

One hundred thousand new residents will settle in The Hills district in the coming years and the NSW state government hopes high-rise apartments will cure traffic problems and preserve the existing homes from redevelopment.

The skyline will change radically as the high-density area takes shape along the proposed Northwest Rail Link corridor.

At Showground Station, 3800 new homes will be built – most in apartment towers that will dwarf existing structures in the area.

A little further down the line, Bella Vista and Kellyville stations will house an additional 4400 new homes each with some of the proposed apartments buildings set to rise as high as 22 levels.

Community consultation is the next step.
