WHAT THEY SAID

"We've heard for a long time they're not, and a bit of competition comes along. Well, I hope they welcome competition, because ... they're going to see it across everything," - Baird on taking the F1 Grand Prix from Melbourne.

"What next? He'll bring Wimbledon and the US Masters to Sydney next ... what a flop of an announcement," - Foley's response to the Grand Prix plan.

TODAY'S PROMISES

Govt

- Mr Baird announced he wants to bring the F1 Grand Prix to Sydney from Melbourne, and has appointed former News Ltd chief John Hartigan and leader of the Sydney 2000 Olympic bid Rod McGeoch to do it.

Labor

- Reserved an additional $389 million on top of an already budgeted $278 million to build roads around the Badgerys Creek site.

- Elected state and federal Labor government will ensure rail links from the south-west rail line to the western rail line be factored into the lease of the Badgerys Creek site from the Federal Government. Expected to cost under $1 billion.
