A man has been charged after allegedly trying to smuggle the drug ice and tobacco into NSW's Goulburn jail.

A 37-year-old man and two women, aged 26 and 19, went to visit a prisoner in the Goulburn Correctional Centre just after midday on Sunday, when a search of the group allegedly led to prohibited substances being found.

A stash of crystal methamphetamine - or ice - and tobacco was found on the man while the 26-year-old woman was allegedly carrying tobacco, police say. A further search of their car found more ice, suspected stolen documents and cash.

The man will face Goulburn Local Court on Monday after being refused bail, while the woman has been charged and is waiting a court date.
