A man wanted by police has been charged after flagging down a police car he mistook for a taxi on the NSW Central Coast.

Police were called to a hotel in Kincumber just before 9.30pm on Tuesday following reports a group had refused to leave the premises when asked.

Police say the group was aggressive to officers, who used pepper spray, before one of the group threw a rock at an officer, striking his belt.

Two men were arrested and one man fled the scene.

Less than an hour later police were patrolling near the hotel when they were flagged down by a man who mistook the patrol vehicle for a taxi.

The 29-year-old man, who was dripping wet, was charged and refused bail to appear in court on Wednesday.
