Firearm charge for man in NSW terror probe

A third man has been charged by NSW counterterrorism investigators in connection to an alleged right-wing plot on the NSW South Coast.

The 19-year-old man from Falls Creek, south of Nowra, was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm after an investigation into his links to two brothers charged with terrorism offences, NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.

The Falls Creek man has been granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Nowra Local Court on June 1.

The NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team last week charged Benjamin Lucas, 23, from Batemans Bay, with one count of acts done in preparation for, or planning, terrorist acts and two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm.

His younger brother, Joshua Lucas, 21, from Sanctuary Point, has been charged with planning a terrorist act after police uncovered an alleged right-wing plot to attack an electrical substation on the South Coast.

Police will allege the brothers were involved in early planning for a terrorist act and were trying to obtain military equipment, including firearms, and other items capable of making improvised explosive devices.

Authorities said the NSW Joint Counter Terrorism Team investigation was ongoing.
