Faster seatbelts for NSW school buses

All 2800 buses operating on regional NSW school runs will have seatbelts by the end of 2019, some four years ahead of schedule, thanks to a $29 million budget boost.

The installation of seatbelts across the rural fleet will require replacing 415 buses and retrofitting almost 2000 existing buses, NSW Transport Minister Andrew Constance said in a statement on Monday.

Some 515 buses have already been replaced.

"This is something our communities have been crying out for and I'm committed to making sure kids across the state can travel to school safely," Mr Constance said.

About 200,000 students in regional NSW who have access to the School Student Transport Scheme are travelling to school on dedicated buses.
