Elderly man dies in Sydney unit blaze

An elderly man has died following a fire at a unit in Sydney's west late on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to a property in Whalen and after the fire had been extinguished, the body of an man believed to be in his 80s was located during a search of the premises.

An investigation into the circumstances of the fire is underway, and it is not yet known if the fire is suspicious.
