A Sydney man who allegedly hit a parked car, ran a red light and drove into the path of an oncoming police car has been charged with possessing drugs.

Police say they pulled the 25-year-old man over in Surry Hills in the early hours of Sunday and subjected him to roadside drug test that returned a positive result.

Her provided an incorrect name and falsely claimed to be a returned soldier, while a police search of his car uncovered MDMA and methylamphetamine, police said.

He has been charged with 11 offences including driving without ever having a licence, supply of a prohibited drug and negligent driving.
