Driver’s slow reaction sparks online debate after late-night crash

A Sydney driver’s slow reaction to a car stopped in the middle of the road has caused an online furore with social media critics divided as to who’s to blame for the ensuing accident.

The dash cam footage taken on September 24 just after 9:40pm on Old Windsor Rd, Kellyville in Sydney’s north-west shows a car travelling at 80km/h when a car in front suddenly stops.

Despite a lengthy distance between the car in front, the driver appears to continue the course, braking only moments before slamming into the back of the stationary vehicle.

The dash cam driver, known only as Patrick, published the video with an explanation, claiming he did not have enough time to stop before the crash.

However, while some social media critics support his claims, many users have been quick to place blame on the dash cam driver for not reacting sooner.

“Reactions of a potato,” wrote one user.

“Car in front brakes, you brake, not hard Einstein,” wrote another.

The footage posted yesterday to Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page has been viewed more than 25,000 times and has garnered over 100 comments.
