An unlicensed driver has led police on a four-hour, 210km night-time pursuit through southern NSW.

Police clocked his black Mitsubishi Lancer at 183km/h on the Hume Highway at Tumblong, near Gundagai, shortly after midnight on Monday.

They chased him to Cootamundra, where road spikes failed to stop the car, then on to Wallendbeen, back to Cootamundra, then on to Muttama and Jugiong.

Another set of road spikes finally stopped the car near Bookham around 4am, about 90km north of where the pursuit began.

The 33-year-old driver, who has never held a licence, was refused bail to face various driving offences at Goulburn Local Court on Monday.
