Cousin lovers in court for murder trial

The trial of first cousins and lovers accused of murdering a man after he urinated on their bathroom floor continues on Wednesday.

Cousins Jason Wiremu Hiroki and Aroha Hiroki were in the NSW Supreme Court on Tuesday for the first day of their trial, where the prosecution argued they were jointly responsible for the death of 45-year-old Nick Katopodis.

The couple told police different versions of their story and tried to blame each other, the court heard.

The coroner was unable to determine a cause of death, but noted Mr Katopodis had three small fractures on his skull, a broken bone in his left arm and plastic from a six pack of beer in his mouth.

His body, which was allegedly bundled in plastic wrap and taken on a skateboard to be buried, was found 19 months after he disappeared from the Hiroki's home in Wollongong on July 27, 2011.

Blood splatters were allegedly found on the wall and ceiling of their dining room by police.

Jason Wiremu Hiroki has pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder after the fact, but both have pleaded not guilty to murder.
