Convicted NSW killer fights to be freed

A convicted killer who survived being gunned down in a Sydney street has won the right to a new parole hearing after confidential police information about his alleged criminal activities was not handed to his lawyers.

Emad Sleiman, who had been on parole for the 1997 murder of water-skiing champion Jason Burton, was shot in the chest and legs in Auburn in March. His parole was then revoked after police submitted a dossier to the State Parole Authority on his alleged criminal activities since his release.

NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum agreed on Friday to a submission from lawyer Nick Hanna, for Sleiman, to order a new parole hearing be held.
