The worker had been checking fuel tanks when he was struck by the ute.

Bystanders attempted to help the man before paramedics arrived.

The 36-year-old man was freed from the car and was treated at the scene, before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition.

He was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.

The victim died from his injuries in hospital on Sunday, NSW Police confirmed.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The driver of the ute, a 44-year-old woman, has since been charged with one count of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and breach of bail.

No additional or upgraded charges have been laid following the man’s death.
