Court told of Hutton's ex's invasion ruse

Allegations the former partner of media personality Deborah Hutton attempted to stage a home invasion are "serious and unusual", a Sydney court has been told.

Robert Venour Dulhunty, 49, is facing six charges including intimidation, making a false call to triple zero and damaging Ms Hutton's $3.8 million Bronte home on August 11.

Police allege he staged the attempted aggravated break and enter in an apparent attempt to make Ms Hutton feel she was under threat of physical or mental harm, court documents show.

Dulhunty allegedly damaged two fly-wire screens and a wall during the ruse.

Police prosecutor Liam Edwards told Waverley Local Court on Thursday the case had been referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"The allegations are quite serious," he said.

"It's an unusual set of circumstances which the director might have to have a look at to take up on indictment."

Dulhunty's bail conditions prevented him from appearing in court.

An application for an apprehended violence order has been made on Ms Hutton's behalf against her former partner of six-and-a-half years.

His solicitor Bryan Wrench told the court it was a "very eccentric matter".

The lawyer was scolded after saying there was no malice in the matter and Dulhunty "cared" for Ms Hutton but wanted to give her some space.

"Really?" magistrate Mary Ryan said.

"You don't have to make gratuitous statements to the court."

Mr Wrench replied: "There have been gratuitous statements made in the media ... he's suffering from that."

Dulhunty's bail was varied so he could attend Waverley Local Court when the case is next mentioned on August 30.
